Position Summary:
This position supports the Social Ecology Career Services Pipeline and reports directly to the Director of Career Services and Field Study. The Peer Educator is instrumental in helping Social Ecology’s new Career Services Pipeline achieve its mission of preparing undergraduate students for career and graduate school success, with a special focus on the academic and career pathways related to Social Ecology majors (such as Psychology, Urban Studies, Criminology, Law & Society, and Environmental Science and Policy).
Job Duties:
- Receive extensive training on reviewing resumes, cover letters, and providing feedback on interview preparation with a focus on Social Ecology-related careers.
- Advise and support Social Ecology undergraduate students on career exploration, graduate school planning, resumes, cover letters, job/internship search strategies, and interview techniques.
- Promote Social Ecology Career Services Pipeline resources, programs, and events across the School of Social Ecology.
- Deliver career-related presentations and workshops, including to student organizations and classes, with an emphasis on Social Ecology career pathways.
- Build firsthand knowledge of internship, research, and job opportunities relevant to Social Ecology fields.
- Research career and graduate school trends relevant to Social Ecology fields and assist in collecting and analyzing basic student outcome data.
- Develop marketing, leadership, and professional communication skills through outreach activities.
- Assist with major center events, including career panels, networking mixers, graduate school events, and the annual Social Ecology Career Summit.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Major within the School of Social Ecology
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Excel, Powerpoint, and Word (experience with Microsoft Access highly preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of Google Docs, Sheets and Slides
- 3.5+ overall GPA
- Completion of statistics coursework (SE 13 or equivalent)
- Strong analytical skills (able to track and analyze basic data)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with working in an office environment
- Empathetic and sensitive to students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to routinely work independently on assignments, seeking assistance and clarification when needed
- Ability to follow through with assignments on tight deadlines
- Receptive to constructive criticism
- Access to a secure and reliable internet connection
- Access to a secure and reliable laptop or desktop
- Minimum 3-quarter commitment
Preferred Qualifications
- Work-study eligible
- Strong interest in career development, higher education, or peer advising
- Strong command of content creation platforms (e.g., PowerPoint, Canva.com, etc)
- Previous experience with social media management
- Previous experience with graphic design or social media management
We are looking for a student who can commit through the end of Spring 2026 (with the possibility of working over the summer, starting in July, but open to negotiating the start date).
