Student Developer and Administrative Assistant
Overview
We are looking for sophomores or later with at least 2 years of school left and the ability to work 40 hours per week during Summer 2025.
The OIT ESMS Development team is looking for an Undergraduate Student Developer and Administrative Assistant to be responsible for general administrative duties in addition to developing front-end and back-end software. The Student Developer & Administrative Assistant will interact with the Assistant Divisional Director, Project Team Lead, and other team members. The Student Developer and Administrative Assistant should be detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills, and have an interest in developing front-end and back-end software.
The Enterprise Student Management Systems (ESMS) Unit within the UCI Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for the systems and applications used by six large, complex, and mission-critical business units: Financial Aid and Scholarships, Financial Services, Graduate Division, Office of the Registrar, Summer Session, and Undergraduate Admissions. The support provided includes daily operational support and monitoring, incident management and troubleshooting, new development, maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements to a diverse group of complex in-house developed applications. Real-time and batch system integrations, data extracts and reports, and support for third-party software products and their integration with other systems are also included.
Student Developer and Administrative Assistant Responsibilities:
Under close supervision, the employee performs the following responsibilities:
- Data entry and analysis
- Simple front-end and back-end development tasks with the possibility of taking on more complex tasks based on the student’s capabilities
- Video editing
- Writing technical documentation
- Compliance review and enforcement
- Research and information gathering on various topics
- Interacting with team members to understand various task requirements
- Reviewing, analyzing, and understanding functional requirements
Skills and Qualifications
Required
- Available to work 40 hours a week during Summer 2025
- Available to work between 12 to 19.5 hours a week during the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms
- Current undergraduate status through June 2027 or later
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
- Good organizational skills and a detail-oriented mindset
- General computer skills (i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing, email, etc.)
- Working proficiency of the following technologies:
- JavaScript (React JS library)
- HTML, CSS
- Java
Preferred
Working knowledge of the following software/tools:
- Git
- IDE such as IntelliJ, Eclipse, or Visual Studio Code
- Video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere, ClipChamp)
If training is required, it will be provided via online tutorials and mentorship from team members.
