Facilities Student Assistant
The Facilities Student Assistant is responsible for the daily operational needs as they relate to the general upkeep of the School of Law, Education and MPAA builldings. The position will perform daily cleanup and stocking inventory for all kitchens/breakrooms and classrooms as well as cleaning up, picking up trash throughout the Law School grounds. The position will also be helping out for event setup/breakdown and cleanup. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Facilities Department in specific operations and maintenance of facilities in three locations: the main School of Law (Law) building, the Multipurpose Academic & Administrative (MPAA) building and the Education (EDU) building. Facilities include lecture halls and classrooms in addition to faculty, staff and administrative offices and common areas. Oversight of the following functions is included: janitorial services, building repair/maintenance, supply inventory.
Required:
- Strong interpersonal skills to provide cordial, professional customer service, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and students.
- Skill to operate and perform general maintenance on office machines.
- Skill to coordinate an inventory of supplies.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative in carrying out responsibilities.
- Ability to prioritize workload to perform duties in a timely manner.
- Skill to operate a personal computer.
- Cleaning skills - Ability to vacuum, mop, dust, wash walls, wash windows and other surfaces.
- Ability to lift heavy objects - 50 lb. paper boxes to waist height and full large 55 gal. trash cans above shoulder height.
- Knowledge of the correct and safe use of proper cleaning supplies (i.e. ammonia and bleach).
- Communication skills - Excellent verbal and written and ability to discuss issues with students, faculty and staff in a politically correct manner.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in detail.
- Ability to report damages and track supplies.
- Ability to use MS Windows and type efficiently.
- Ability to use MS Word and Excel - MS Access experience beneficial but not mandatory.
- Ability to file alphabetically and scan documents to electronic file (i.e. pdf).
