SSI Peer Educator 2025-2026
A Student Success Initiatives (SSI) Peer Educator guides and supports students from historically underrepresented populations such as but not limited to: first-generation, low income, and undocumented students. Peer Educators help SSI students succeed and thrive, socially and academically by providing tips and suggestions around study skills, accountability, developing and achieving goals, getting involved, and effectively using campus resources. Additionally, Peer Educators help to organize activities and assist with various office projects, tasks, and events for our affiliated cohort programs.
The SSI Peer Educator role is broken up into three separate components–front desk support, academic success plans (ASPs), and programming. Through ASPs, the SSI Peer Educator provides academic support around study skills, accountability, developing and achieving goals, and effectively utilizing campus resources in individual and small group settings as it relates to the requirement of the SSI LARC Scholarship. Additionally, the SSI Peer Educator is matched with one of the following SSI programs listed below to provide additional programmatic support. Program assignments can change depending on events and activities of the academic year. Peer Educators must be flexible to support other programs as needed.

Pay: $16.50/Hour
8 Hours/Week
Eligibility Requirements
SSI Peer Educators MUST:
- Be a UCI undergraduate student of sophomore, junior, or senior standing by fall 2025 OR be a transfer student who has been at UCI for at least one academic year by date of employment.
- Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time their application is submitted, start of their employment, and throughout their employment in Student Success Initiatives.
- If GPA is lower than a 3.0, please utilize the cover letter to explain why and what steps are being taken to improve academically.
- Commit to the position for the entirety of the 2025-2026 academic school year (September 15th, 2025-June 12th, 2026). All students must be full time students Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters.
- Attend and participate in mandatory SSI Peer Educator Summer Training from September 15th, 2025 - September 19th, 2025, from 9am-4pm which will be held in person on-campus.
- Students are responsible for making arrangements to attend training in advance.
- Attend bi-weekly in person staff meetings on even weeks of the quarter during the 2025-2026 academic year from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. Exact day of the week is TBD.
- Be available to work a minimum of 8 hours a week in SSI during the 2025-2026 academic year excluding finals week and campus holidays/closures.
- Be eligible to work in the United States, Peer Educators need to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9) form which requires employees to provide documented proof of this eligibility.
As a SSI Peer Educator, you will
- Provide tips and suggestions around study skills, accountability, developing and achieving goals, getting involved, and effectively utilizing campus resources.
- Assist in the implementation of programs and or services for SSI students.
- Strategize with students in academic and/or social distress: help students consider their current behaviors and new skills they might adopt to increase their success.
- Input student usage data into our office database and support our office data management efforts.
- Help maintain the SSI office as a welcoming and productive environment for all who utilize/visit SSI.
- Develop and demonstrate skill in guiding and facilitating discussion, either one-on-one or in a group.
- Share your knowledge and experience with students, either one-on-one or in a group.
- Know how to locate and access information about other campus resources.
- Assist with outreach and promotion which may include participating in Welcome Week events, Celebrate UCI events, and campus and community resource fairs.
- Gather and organize material for use in workshops and/or programs that address academic, financial, and social needs of SSI students.
- Work with campus officials and organizations to better serve and advocate for SSI students.
- Make recommendations for SSI program improvements.
- Be privy to and keep private the confidential information of UCI students.
The successful SSI Peer Educator will demonstrate the following skills:

- Have an understanding of and experience working with diverse populations.
- Have an interest in and awareness of the unique needs of SSI student populations.
- Attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
- Possess basic proficiency in Canva for crafting digital flyers and promotional materials.
As a SSI Peer Educator you will be provided with the following opportunities:

In your cover letter, please address why you are interested in working with our student populations. Additionally, share about your background and/or experiences with historically underrepresented populations as well as your knowledge of their respective needs. Finally, please state what programming assignment you’d be most interested in working with. If you are not interested in a particular program, you may state that you do not have a preference.
