C-CAP TEACH Mellon Grant Student Assistant
Winter 2025 quarter, 10 week only.

Community-Centered Archives Practice: Transforming Education, Archives, and Community History (C-CAP TEACH) Student Assistant
Selected students will participate in a dynamic training and educational experience that exposes them to multiple facets of the library and archives professions while working with one of the following community-based organizations: VietRISE, Second Baptist Church, and LibroMobile.
- Assist in organization and preservation of manuscripts and archival collections at UCI and in the Orange County region
- Conduct research and participate in community engagement activities
- Create and edit original descriptive information for manuscripts and archival collections using specialized software
- May perform quality control for archival description and metadata using specialized software and/or web resources
- Follow basic rare materials handling and preservation procedures
- Assist with special events and programming
- Document reactions and experiences in a weekly journal
- Complete an exit survey evaluating the experience
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to perform semi-skilled clerical work (typing, filing, etc.)
- Ability to safely handle rare materials
- Ability to do basic library catalog searching
- Computer skills sufficient to work with word processing and database software
- Ability to operate computers, printers, and scanners
- Ability to work independently and productively, with no direct on-site supervision
- Reading knowledge of Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, or Hmong, or Spanish is highly desirable
