Adjunct Faculty - Student Teaching in Second English/Drama Classroom

NYU Steinhardt Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions (MPAP) Program in Educational Theatre seeks qualified candidates to teach the course, Student Teaching in the Secondary English/Drama Classroom, from1/21/2025 to 5/6/2025, once a week to graduate students

This seminar is designed to support the secondary student teaching experience through an examination of pedagogy, implementation, environment, and praxis. Using the course readings, case studies, personal observations and reflections, as well as class discussions, this course aims to deepen students’ understanding of teaching and learning, as well as explore and problematize contemporary philosophies of drama education. Planning, curriculum, New York State and City standards/strands, instructional strategies, reflective practices, classroom management, facilitation, classroom diversity, and assessment will be addressed throughout the seminar. This course will serve as a forum for student teachers to share successes and challenges within their placements. Additionally, this course will support students as they prepare to complete their TPA, the performance assessment of readiness to teach for novices.


Learning Objectives:

 

  • Students will be able to articulate and assess individual goals and questions about teaching and learning to be explored through coursework and classroom field placements. 
  • Students will be able to create lesson plans and unit plans focused on dramatic activities in the secondary classroom that promote mastery of the New York State education standards. 
  • Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of effective strategies of assessment for drama and implement such strategies in the classroom.
  • Students will be able to exercise creative and analytic skills through written and aural responses to readings and classroom experiences.
  • Students will be able to generate a professional teaching portfolio.

 

Open Date

Start and End Dates: 1/21/25 to 5/6/25 – the course meets once a week.

Evaluation Process: Student will meet with Educational Theatre Administrator weekly. Weekly review and evaluate activities, assignments, and timelines.

Hourly Rate: $147.85- $214.85

1.     Teaching Assistants/Graduate Employee Adjuncts: In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the contact hour rate for this position is $143-$207. This contact hour rate is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
