The Inlay Lab is recruiting for a Student Assistant to assist with general laboratory tasks at the Stem Cell Research Center located near the UCI University Research Park. The lab’s research interests span Stem Cell Biology, Immunology, and Developmental Biology. This opportunity will allow students to connect with researchers and administrators, learn valuable basic research skills, and develop their resume. 

Duties Include

 

  • Placing lab orders (also keeping track of common use items like microcentrifuge tubes, FACS tubes, conical tubes, pipette tips, paper towels, soap, and restocking them when necessary)
  • General lab upkeep (dishes, autoclaving, making 70% ethanol, some cleaning, refilling pipette tips)
  • Arranging for Hazardous Waste pickup
  • Checking mail and package delivery, opening packages and recycling boxes
  • Making sure everyone is up to date with EH&S training and keeping the binders up to date; preparing for and being there for EH&S inspections
  • Administrative work (tracking orders, submitting paperwork, updating online information)
  • Attending the building lab manager meetings
  • Mouse colony maintenance (health checks of cages, tracking cages, splitting/weaning mice)
  • PCR genotyping

 

Minimum Qualifications
A UCI undergraduate with ability to follow lab protocols; both oral and written instructions, time management skills when completing assignments, ability to work in coordination with others, ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and attention to detail are required. In addition, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs is preferred. Must have some moderate level of scientific knowledge or have previously worked in a laboratory setting. Must be comfortable working with mice.  Student can work from home, but will need to be able to come into the lab at least one day per week.   Work-study awarded funds for the 2023-2024 school year preferred (upload along with resume and cover letter).

Hours and Salary

4-8 hrs/week $16.00/hr
