Science Library Checkout Desk/Copy Services Assistant

JOB OVERVIEW

Training and assisting patrons in the use of the Express Checkout equipment.

Checking in materials and routing them to their proper locations.

Checking out materials and creating on-the-fly records for materials not properly attached in system.

Assisting patrons with the placement & pickup of holds, renewals, recalls and searches.

Providing information, directional, and referral services for library user; recording of these daily statistics.

Reviewing training documentation and work rules as needed.

Reporting any problems to staff member on duty; assisting in other duties as assigned.

Reading email reminders and updates regarding Check Out Desk procedures on a regular basis.

Updating existing patron records; filing of library documents.

Taking phone calls from patrons and answering general questions.

Performs copy services duties: troubleshooting Wepa printers (including tasks such as filling paper, changing toner, fixing paper jams, lifting up to 50lbs); assisting patrons with Wepa printers, scanners, and microfilm units; recording supply inventories.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Registered as a full time undergraduate at UC Irvine.

Ability to work with accuracy and efficiency in an environment with frequent interruptions and a fluctuating work-load.

General knowledge of the libraries; either as a user or employee; Basic Knowledge of alphabetic and numeric filing.

General knowledge of computers including typing; Good customer service and communication skills.

Ability to provide customer service while maintaining a friendly and professional atmosphere with students, faculty, staff and coworkers in a diverse environment.

Ability to take directions from supervisors; Ability to work with other Library employees.

Ability to perform some manual labor (heavy lifting up to 50 lbs, toner change, etc.)

 

Hours will be between 10AM and 11PM, dependent upon the day scheduled. Must be able to work nights and/or weekends. Must be able to work during Summer quarter 2024 and enrolled in classes during that time.
