Engineering Intern

Virtium is hiring Electrical/Computer Engineering Interns to join our onsite team in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. This internship is designed for current college students who want hands-on engineering experience with industrial SSD, memory, and embedded computing solutions used in demanding real-world applications.

As an intern, you will work alongside senior design engineers, test engineers, technical marketing, production engineering, and field applications engineering to help characterize Virtium products, run directed tests, analyze results, and create clear technical reports. This is a great opportunity to apply classroom learning in a professional engineering environment while gaining exposure to industrial hardware, embedded systems, and product validation.

What You’ll Work On

  • Support power and thermal characterization of Virtium SSD and industrial memory products.
  • Create test reports that summarize findings, data, and observations.
  • Develop or update test scripts to support product validation and engineering analysis.
  • Assist the field applications engineering team with customer-required directed tests.
  • Work with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot, document, and communicate test results.
  • Gain exposure to industrial-grade storage, memory, embedded computing, and Edge AI-related technologies.

  • Interest in hardware, embedded systems, SSDs, memory, test engineering, or product validation.
  • Basic understanding of electrical or computer engineering fundamentals.
  • Comfort working with data, technical documentation, and engineering teams.
  • Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2 preferred.

Role Overview

Virtium is seeking an Electrical/Computer Engineering Intern to support product characterization, validation, and testing for our industrial SSD, memory, and embedded computing solutions. This internship is ideal for a current college student who is interested in hardware engineering, embedded systems, test engineering, and real-world product development.

The intern will work onsite with senior design engineers, test engineers, technical marketing, production engineering, and field applications engineering to characterize product performance, run directed tests, analyze results, and document findings. This role provides meaningful hands-on exposure to engineering tools, lab work, test scripting, technical reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.

Role Responsibilities

  • Support power and thermal characterization of Virtium SSD and industrial memory products.
  • Assist with engineering validation, directed testing, and product performance analysis.
  • Create clear, accurate test reports that summarize results, observations, and next steps.
  • Develop, update, and run test scripts to support product characterization and validation.
  • Partner with field applications engineering to support customer-required test activities.
  • Work cross-functionally with design engineering, test engineering, production engineering, technical marketing, and applications teams.
  • Document issues, organize data, and communicate findings in a clear and professional manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Current college student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering, computer engineering, hardware, or embedded systems concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working with technical data, test results, and engineering teams.
  • Detail-oriented, curious, coachable, and eager to learn in a hands-on environment.
  • U.S. work authorization required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework, projects, or lab experience related to circuits, computer architecture, embedded systems, storage, memory, firmware, or hardware testing.
  • Exposure to scripting or programming such as Python, C, C++, or similar tools.
  • Experience using lab equipment or engineering tools for testing, measurement, or data collection.
  • Interest in industrial hardware, SSDs, memory, Edge AI, embedded computing, or high-reliability technology products.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2 preferred.

  • Compensation: $21.00–$23.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
  • Schedule: Full-time internship, Monday through Friday
