East Asian Studies Department Assistant

East Asian Studies Department Student Assistant

The Department of East Asian Studies in the School of Humanities is seeking a front desk student assistant to work part-time during the 2026-27 academic year. This is a work-study position; applicants will be required to provide proof of accepted work-study funding for the 2026-27 academic year.

The student assistant will support the daily operations of the Department of East Asian Studies by assisting with the administrative needs of staff, faculty, and instructors. Duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Assist with front office reception and direct visitors as needed.
  • Provide clerical and administrative assistance to staff and faculty.
  • Design and create graphics and flyers to advertise events, publicize announcements, and course offerings.
  • Help manage department’s social media accounts. Create posts (graphics and copy) to announce department updates and publicize events and courses.
  • Help restock and troubleshoot Xerox machine and assist instructors with its use.
  • Complete photocopy jobs to assist instructors with course preparation and research needs.
  • Assist with departmental events including setup and cleanup.
  • Sort and deliver departmental mail and library books.
  • Shred confidential documents as needed.
  • Ensure common areas are kept clean, tidy, and presentable.
  • Additional projects and tasks as assigned.

Required:

  • Be detail-oriented, organized, reliable, and efficient.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the UCI Google Workspace.

Preferred:

  • Working familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or other graphic design programs.
  • Previous experience creating flyers or with graphic design.
