Psychology Intern at Children's Clinic
Developmental Specialty Partners (DSP) offers a hands-on Psychology Internship for students seeking real-world experience working with children in a clinical setting. This internship is designed for individuals interested in psychology, child development, education, or related fields who want exposure to interdisciplinary child-focused services.
This opportunity is well-suited for students attending Cal Poly, Cuesta College, Allan Hancock College, or similar programs who are looking to gain practical experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental differences.
Internship Overview
As a Psychology Intern, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary clinical team supporting children through structured activities, group routines, and play-based engagement. Interns assist with circle time, activity facilitation, and child engagement while supporting clinicians and staff during sessions. Ongoing training and mentorship are provided to build skills in professional communication, teamwork, and clinical environments.
What You’ll Do
- Support children during structured activities, group routines, and play-based engagement
- Assist with circle time, transitions, and activity setup
- Encourage participation, engagement, and positive social interactions
- Support clinical staff during sessions by helping maintain a safe, organized environment
- Observe clinical interactions and learn about treatment planning and service delivery
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a degree program with relevant coursework in psychology, child development, early childhood education, or a related field
- Strong interest in working with children and supporting developmental progress
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including floor-based activities and lifting up to 50 lbs.
