Civil Design Team: Student Drafter- TDS
As a part of the Civil Design Team, you will be given the opportunity to plan, design, analyze, and implement transportation infrastructure-related projects on campus.
Duties:
- Plan and produce transportation infrastructure designs for projects on campus using AutoCAD. These designs include, but are not limited to: bike paths, roadways, retaining walls, parking lots, pavement striping, pavement sections, sidewalks, crosswalks, fire access lanes and roadway medians.
- Support GIS-based mapping and spatial analysis to document, analyze, and visualize campus transportation infrastructure, assets, and conditions.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of geospatial datasets related to transportation facilities, circulation networks, signage, pavement markings, and accessibility features.
- Contribute to data analysis and modeling efforts, including evaluating transportation patterns and usage trends, and supporting predictive, scenario-based, or early-stage machine learning and statistical modeling using structured datasets.
- Research and update design standards for signs, striping details, lane widths, pavement details, curb details, fire access, utilities, bike paths and more.
- Field work consisting of, but not limited to: surveying, measuring, grading, locating utilities and analyzing existing sites.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Previous experience with AutoCAD 2008 or later.
- Familiarity with or interest in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Exposure to or interest in data analysis, scripting, or modeling tools.
- Comfortable with geometry-based calculations.
- Ability to interpret and understand construction drawings.
- Ability to work independently and follow-through on assignments with general direction.
- Ability to collaborate effectively on team-based projects.
- Ability to learn new standards and code to produce civil designs. (Familiarity with the following standards and codes is preferable: ADA, APBP, SSPWC, SPPWC, CBC, MUTCD, OCFA and city codes).
REQUIRED
- Must have valid California driver license.
- Must work outdoors when needed.
- Must be willing to work around moving vehicles (on roadways and in parking lots).
