AI Filmmaker
The AI Filmmaker will explore the intersection of filmmaking and machine intelligence at UC Irvine Beall Applied Innovation to craft cinematic, short-form stories that bring innovation and science to life — fusing narrative skill with next-generation AI video tools. This position combines artistry, storytelling, and technical experimentation to produce videos that inspire audiences, elevate research storytelling, and demonstrate AI-forward creative methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with our writer, and creative director to storyboard and produce short-form videos (30–90 seconds) using AI video and editing tools.
- Translate interviews, research stories, and brand narratives into emotionally compelling visual content.
- Use generative platforms (MidJourney, ElevenLabs, Runway, Nano Banana, etc.) to create motion, dialogue, and cinematic scenes.
- Collaborate with the creative director and content producers to integrate AI-driven storytelling into broader campaigns.
- Edit and finish videos using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
- Maintain visual and tonal consistency across UCI Beall Applied Innovation’s content ecosystem.
- Research emerging AI film tools and develop best practices for ethical, transparent use.
Qualifications
- Background in film, media arts, communications, or related creative discipline.
- Strong understanding of narrative structure, pacing, and emotional engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to think visually and tell stories that connect complex ideas to general audiences.
- Familiarity with AI video creation tools (MidJourney, Runway, Nano Banana, Sora, etc.).
- Skills in video editing, sound design, and post-production workflows.
- Excellent sense of rhythm, timing, and visual storytelling.
Preferred Skills
- Filmmaking, scriptwriting or creative copywriting experience.
- Familiarity with generative voice, motion, and compositing workflows.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong storytelling, cinematography, and editing abilities.
