Checkout Desk Lead Student Assistant

Access & Operations:

Access & Operations is responsible for the opening, closing, and security of our three buildings on the main campus. We perform general maintenance and some custodial services. We coordinate with campus entities and outside contractors, manage space projects, and provide support for library events. In addition, we are responsible for stacks management, reserves, printing services, equipment circulation, and the circulation desks. We facilitate access to the educational and research resources needed by our users through our Interlibrary Loan and Scanning services and provide multimedia expertise, services, and content at the Multimedia Resources Center (MRC). We take pride in being the faces of the libraries for people who visit in person to use our spaces and services and strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive experience.

Job Description

  • The Check Out Desk Student Lead is responsible for the following:
    Works an assigned shift at the Check Out Desk as relief for the staff member in charge and as backup for library opening and closing.
  • Will work collaboratively with all members of the Check Out/Reserves/Stacks team while performing the following functions: Activating library cards; Updatingexisting patron records; Filing of library documents; training and Directing other student assistants; training and assisting patrons in the use of self checkoutmachines; Taking phone calls from patrons and answering general questions; Checking in of materials and routing to proper shelf locations; Recording dailystatistics; Performs copy services duties: troubleshooting WEPA printers(including tasks such as filing paper, changing toner, fixing paper jams, lifting up to 50lbs; Assisting users with WEPA printers, scanners, and microfilm units; recording supply inventories; Reviewing training documentation and work rules asneeded; conferring with staff as needed.
  • Assisting patrons with the placement of holds, recalls, searches, and renewals by telephone or in person.
  • Providing information, directional, and referral services for library user.
  • Reading email reminders and updates regarding checkout desk procedures on a regular basis.
  • Assisting in assigned duties.

***This position requires working after-hours, weekends, and holiday shifts. Additionally the employee may be the senior-most staff member on duty in thebuilding, and therefore may be required to take chare or assist during an emergency. ***
