UCI’s Beall Applied Innovation (BAI) connects campus research to real-world impact through commercialization, entrepreneurship, and public-private partnerships. The Enterprise Collaboration Group (ECG) scouts UCI research, builds partnerships, and ships pilots—like NarrA.I.tive’s AI Story Studio and Elder Wisdom.

Role Snapshot
This is a builder role for someone who loves analysis + making. You’ll research markets and tech, curate and structure data, and use modern AI tools to create short videos, images, and promo assets that help launch Elder Wisdom and Story Studio pilots. We value curiosity, experimentation, and collaboration—and a bias to create new output every week.

This role is a career accelerator. You’ll build a portfolio of real deliverables—market briefs, AI-assisted videos, and partner-ready decks—while learning modern AI workflows (Veo/Sora/Runway, RAG/search) and the discipline to ship on deadlines. Working inside Beall Applied Innovation’s ECG and the AI Story Studio exposes you to cross-functional teams, faculty innovators, startups, and industry partners, giving you direct insight into how ideas become products. You’ll graduate with evidence of impact, strong references, and practical experience that hiring managers value: clear communication, analytical rigor, creative execution, and the self-management habits of a high-trust contributor.

Commitment & Location

  • Part-time during the academic year (15–20 hrs/week); full-time in summer (35–40 hrs/week)
  • Minimum 9-month commitment preferred
  • Hybrid; some on-site time at BAI/Story Studio (UCI Research Park) is expected

Key Responsibilities

Analyze & Map Opportunity

  • Research markets, partners, and trends (PitchBook/Elsevier/web + AI).
  • Synthesize findings into crisp briefs, one-pagers, and partner decks.
  • Help map UCI research assets and support our campus API/Portal discovery efforts.
  • Light data wrangling/QA for RAG and search (naming, metadata, versioning).

Build & Prototype

  • Explore/evaluate AI tools and workflows (e.g., Veo, Sora, Runway, Pika, HeyGen, Claude/ChatGPT—depending on access/availability).
  • Draft prompts, curate inputs, iterate, and document reproducible pipelines.
  • Assist with simple ETL/asset management to S3/drive folders and maintain neat file hygiene.

Create & Ship Story Assets

  • Turn briefs into storyboards, social cuts, and short videos to showcase Elder Wisdom.
  • Produce image/video concepts, stitch clips, add captions, and package outputs for web and presentations (PowerPoint/Keynote).
  • Partner with ECG to test what resonates—measure and refine.

Operate & Communicate

  • Attend a weekly stand-up, share blockers, and hit deadlines without hand-holding.
  • Keep clean notes, checklists, and task boards (Notion/Monday/Drive).
  • Represent ECG values: curiosity, experimentation, collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications (non-negotiables)

  • Reliability: on time, honors commitments, communicates early when blocked.
  • Grit & curiosity: you teach yourself tools, try, fail, and improve quickly.
  • Clear writing: concise briefs, clean bullets, strong slide hygiene.
  • Analytical chops: can read papers/reports, extract insights, build simple tables/charts (Excel/Sheets; PowerPoint).
  • Creative execution: comfort using AI media tools + basic editing (e.g., CapCut, Premiere, or Runway/HeyGen).
  • Self-starter: thrives with broad goals and produces results weekly.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Prompt engineering basics; familiarity with RAG/search concepts.
  • Light Python or data skills (CSV cleanup, simple scripts) a plus.
  • Video/editing tools (Premiere, After Effects) or motion graphics basics.
  • Experience in startups, student org leadership, or entrepreneurial projects.

 Pay: Undergrad $17/hr, Grad: $22/hr
