The Todd and Lisa Halbrook Center for Investment and Wealth Management (CIWM) is one of the seven Centers of Excellence within the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business. The CIWM mission is to provide financial literacy education to individuals of all socioeconomic and educational backgrounds and to empower them to make smart financial decisions. What you will do as a CIWM intern:
As a CIWM Intern, you have the responsibility to provide essential administrative and front desk support to ensure smooth daily operations. Responsibilities include organizing documents, managing filing systems, taking meeting notes, and running errands as needed. You will also handle front desk duties such as receiving mail and packages, maintaining office organization, responding to general inquiries, and relaying information efficiently and professionally. As a Marketing and outreach intern, your primary responsibilities will be to support the planning and execution of promotional and engagement efforts for CIWM programs and initiatives. Responsibilities include assisting with content creation for social media and digital platforms, coordinating outreach events, maintaining contact databases, and distributing marketing materials. You will also help track engagement metrics, support community partnerships, and contribute to strategies that enhance CIWM’s visibility and public impact.
What You’ll Focus on:
Student interns support CIWM staff by leading student initiatives including but not limited to marketing, event planning, and program execution. They are proactive, creative, and self-directed individuals with a passion for spreading awareness about financial literacy education. Some of the job duties and responsibilities include:
- Marketing Communications: Creating, executing, and overseeing marketing campaigns, including advertising, social media, email marketing, and content creation that align with the organization's overall goals and values.
- Outreach Support: Ability to create and execute a plan to outreach to schools for schools, educational institutions and various population crowds to promote the program and increase applicant pool. This also includes cold-call and email outreach.
- Social Media Management: Managing social media calendars, creating social media posts on all platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn), partnering with other accounts for maximum reach, engagement monitoring and analysis. Utilizing online platforms, newsletters, social media, and websites to reach and engage with target audiences.
- On-Site Event Support: Assist in planning and executing CIWM events, workshops, and programs, contributing to their success and impact and website maintenance.
- Visual Communications: Incorporating graphic design, photography, and other visual elements to create visually appealing marketing materials such as brochures, infographics, and social media posts.
- Resource Development: Contribute to the development of educational resources, training materials, and program-related content to enhance participant learning and engagement.
Additional Information
- Hours: 15-19.5 hours per week
- Non-business majors welcome!
- Work-study awards are welcome, but not required (If you have one, please attach a copy of your award letter to your application.)
- This role is designed as a work opportunity for undergraduate students
- While we aim to hire student staff for the academic year, please note that this internship is subject to a quarterly performance review.

Compensation—Starting $16.50-18/hr
Reports to—CIWM program staff
Summary/objective—support CIWM operations and programs
Work environment—group work, collaborative, individual projects
Physical demands—walking, standing, moving equipment around campus, occasional lifting
Position type and expected hours of work—part time, typical work hours vary but fall within CIWM office hours, M-F 9am-5pm. Some evenings and weekends due to program needs.
Required education and experience—Must be a current undergraduate student at UCI, work study eligible but not required
Preferred education and experience—Open to all majors and backgrounds. Preferred in any of the following , Canva, Google workspace, etc.

As an applicant for the Student Intern, Marketing & Outreach role at the Center for Investment and Wealth Management (CIWM), you have the option to submit a marketing and communication campaign document that demonstrates your ability to plan, execute, and oversee a comprehensive marketing strategy. The document should include the following components:
- Overview: Provide a brief overview of the marketing campaign or communication project, including its objectives, target audience, key messages, and outcomes.
- Your Role: Clearly state your role and responsibilities in the project. Explain how your contributions were instrumental in the success of the campaign or project.
- Campaign Strategy: Describe the strategies and tactics used in the campaign or project. Highlight any innovative approaches, creative ideas, or methods that you implemented.
- Results and Impact: Present the results and outcomes of the marketing campaign or communication project. Include key performance indicators (KPIs) and data to showcase its success and effectiveness.
- Lessons Learned: Reflect on the experience and discuss any challenges faced during the campaign or project. Share insights and lessons learned, and explain how you would apply them in future endeavors.
- Relevance to CIWM: Draw connections between the project and the CIWM's mission, goals, and responsibilities. Explain how your previous experience would be beneficial in the context of financial literacy education.
- Visual Samples: Share visual elements, such as social media posts, graphics, or email newsletters, include samples to showcase your creativity and design skills.
Whether you choose to create a mock-up marketing plan or submit an existing project, the document should be well-organized, professional, and clearly demonstrate your capabilities in marketing, event planning, and communication. Your work sample should showcase your ability to think critically, act proactively, and achieve impactful results.
