Oral English Tutor
About this Job
Tutors work with the Tutor Coordinators in the Program in Global Languages and Cultures in support of international graduate students at UCI who are enrolled in Academic English oral communication courses. Tutors interact with international graduate students and help them improve their oral English communication skills by: leading and facilitating oral communication tasks, assisting with pronunciation and conversation practice, providing feedback, discussing class work, etc. A tutoring session with one student lasts for 1 hour. Tutors may also be required to participate in training sessions/meetings with the Tutor Coordinators to prepare for tutoring.
Applicants must:
● Have a work-study award for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applicants are required to provide proof of an accepted work-study award in their application
● Be able to work 2-6 hours per week during the Fall 2025 quarter when classes are in session (tutors do not work during finals week)
● Have a GPA of 2.8 or above
● Feel comfortable working with international graduate students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups
● Able to manage time well, attending all tutoring sessions on time
● Have excellent communication skills, responding promptly to emails
● Have strong oral English communication skills
● Be passionate about helping their students improve their oral English communication skills and willing to learn about teaching English pronunciation and related technologies
● Be able to work in person for tutoring sessions
Hourly pay rate: $22.14/hour
