Location: Alec Glasser Center for the Power of Music & Social Change
Position Type: Part-Time (5–10 hours/week); hybrid-remote
Compensation: $17 / hour
Start Date: September 1st, 2025/negotiable

Are you a highly organized student with a keen eye for compelling visuals and interest in publishing, research, or the creative process? We are looking for a Student Intern to support the Glasser Center faculty and staff on an upcoming book project. This role is ideal for someone who has a creative instinct for selecting imagery that resonates with a diverse, global audience.
The Alec Glasser Center for the Power of Music & Social Change is located in the School of Social Ecology at UCI. We believe that music has the power to transform, empower, and create meaningful change for individuals and societies. We aim to share this perspective in a collaborative book project we are in the early stages of developing. We intend to hire one or two students to help us see this project through. This hybrid position will start on or around September 1st, 2025 and go through at least March 2026. Expected time commitment is 5-10 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Search for relevant images, graphics, and other media for possible inclusion in the book
- Help inquire about copyright permissions and keep a record of responses
- Organize and maintain shared folders, files, and version histories
- Create and update to-do lists, timelines, and task trackers
- Take notes during meetings and assist with follow-up tasks
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled undergraduate or master’s student at UCI
- Possess a strong visual eye to help source compelling images, graphics, and other assets for forthcoming book
- Ability to manage time and follow through on multiple ongoing tasks
- Experience using the library and other digital databases
- Comfort using Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and Zoom
Required Skills:
- Visual literacy & aesthetic judgement
- Organization and time management
- Excellent digital and archival research
- Outstanding communication
Bonus Skills :
- Experience with citation tools (Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote, etc.)
- Familiarity with copyright basics, academic publishing, and editing
- Knowledge or interest in the the science of music
- Experience with graphic design, data visualization, or similar
